RE
The four different Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) have different accounts of the events surrounding the Nativity. Some of the Gospels don’t even include an account of the birth of Jesus! This week, we would like you to investigate where we would find the following things:
The Annunciation
The Visitation
The visit by the shepherds
The visit by the Kings
For each one, find the Bible reference and then write a quote from the passage of Scripture, using the sheet below.
Music
For this week’s Music session, use the link below to access a wonderful production by the orchestra that Amina (the musician who zoomed in to Y6’s classroom) is involved in. See if you can spot her! The show starts off with an introduction to the instruments in the orchestra. There is then a performance of the Bear and the Piano.

Year 5 and 6 English
Mrs Muldoon’s Year 6 class, I have made an alteration to the planning for Tuesday’s English to make it clearer for you when working from home. (We will look at the poetry lesson when we are together in school so that you have more chance to gather ideas through our class discussion.)
For today, please can you complete the comprehension questions based on the text shared yesterday: John Capes: The Survivor No-One Believed. I have attached a copy of the questions below.
Maths
This week as all of our classes are working at different points, we have decided to have separate documents for each class.
RE
This week’s RE lessons explore the story of the Annunciation, where Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel who told her that she was to have a baby.
Session 1:
In this session, we explore how Jesus didn’t come to be served but to serve other people. (Think about the story of when he washed the feet of the Disciples or about how he helped people in society that other people would have look down on.
Look at the sheet below and read the lyrics to the hymn ‘The Servant King’. There is a space on this file, next to each slide, to make some notes. For each verse, decide which part of Jesus’ life the words are referring to and summarise the meaning. (what is the verse talking about?)
Session 2:
Read the story of The Annunciation. Make a list of describing words that we could use to describe Mary. For each word that you choose, write a brief explanation as to why you chose it. For example, I might say that Mary was ‘accepting’ because when she was told that she would have a baby, she said ‘Let it be done unto me according to God’s will.’
To challenge yourself further, why not have a go at reading this reflection on Mary and seeing if you can show understanding of the main ideas in it.

Year 5 and Year 6 Science
This week we are looking at the life cycles of insects and amphibians.
Work through the lesson below from Oak National Academy.
Year 5 and Year 6 RE
Session 1:
At the start of our Advent topic on Hope, we are focusing on the idea of waiting. Watch this video clip and while it is playing, try and identify what the young boy is waiting for (perhaps your idea of what he is waiting for changed as the video went on) and also look out for all the different things he does to help the waiting go more quickly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIl69I5_Wjo
In your learning log, write a list of things that you remember having to wait for. For each thing on your list, identify the kind of emotions you felt while you were waiting (were you scared and anxious, or excited?) and finally, whether you did anything to try and make the period of waiting more bearable.
Session 2:
Research the meaning behind the various symbols of the Advent Wreath, which is something Christians use in order to help them count down to Jesus’ birth.
Think about:
The colours of the different candles and their meaning
The circular shape
The evergreen foliage
The red berries
Use the picture of the Advent Wreath on the worksheet below to label each of the symbols, making sure you explain their symbolism.

This week, we would like you to spend time thinking of someone that you would consider to be inspirational. This could be someone that is known to you personally, a relative or friend; or it can be someone who is well known, a celebrity or a person from history.
Spend time researching their life and thinking about what qualities they have shown and how these qualities have shaped their lives. Record your knowledge by creating a fact file about this individual’s life, a powerpoint, a piece of writing or a poem, even a poster. Make sure that you explain clearly why you consider them to be inspirational.
